Sails & Halyards

Sail Inventory

The boat carries:

  • Mainsail — with battens; black halyard.
  • Jib — grey halyard.
  • Spinnaker — red halyard.
  • Storm jib — a minimal sail for heavy weather.

Mainsail

The mainsail has battens, held in the mast track by a black strap — see Practical Tips for removing it when reefing. The main halyard is the black line.

Reefing

The mainsail has two reef points, but only one reefing line (the red line at the aft end of the boom). To reef, route the red line through the reef cringle you want to use at the leech (aft edge) of the sail, then tie it back onto the boom before tightening.

Once the reefed sail is hoisted, tie up the loose lower part of the sail with bungee cords or similar.

Jib

The jib lives in a bag inside the cabin, with its red and green sheets already attached. Bring it up to the foredeck to hoist, and route the sheets back to the cockpit as shown below.

Spinnaker

The spinnaker and its sheets are stowed beneath the forward bunk. It has two sheets and two barber haulers.

The spinnaker pole is stowed attached to the main boom. The lower guy (the rope) is attached to the pole; the upper guy is the yellow rope on the port side of the boat.

Storm Jib

A minimalistic storm jib is available for heavy weather.
